Most Holy Trinity Sunday!

The sacred mystery of the Holy Trinity is the focus of our celebration this weekend.  Our loving God is three Persons whose relationship of love is the model of all human relationships.  As we pray, let us give thanks and praise to the God who made us in the divine image to love and be love to one another.    God's sacred word to us this weekend reveals the life of the Holy Trinity.  From the very beginning of creation through Jesus Christ's death and resurrection and down to our present day, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit have been present and at work--creating, inspiring, healing, redeeming.  From Scripture"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.  He was in the beginning with God.  All things came to be through him, and without him nothing came to be.  What came to be through him was life, and this life was the light of the human race; the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it."  John 1: 1-5

This weekend, we remember the men and women of our Armed Forces who gave their lives for our freedom!  Pray for our country and the leadership of the world.

What season of the Church are we celebrating?

Ordinary Time is the season of the Church year when Catholics are encouraged to grow and mature in daily expression of their faith outside the great seasons of celebration of Christmas and Easter and the great periods of penance of Advent and Lent. It is a time to deepen one's prayer life, read the Scriptures, unite more deeply with the Lord in the Eucharist and become a more holy and whole person.  The color of vestments for Ordinary Time is green.

OPEN HOUSE

Fr. Leo extends an invitation to the community to seek, learn, discover and re-connect to our parish family at our FIRST ANNUAL MINISTRY FAIRE.  Have you been feeling left out of parish activity?  Is your faith journey in need of direction and care?  Are you questioning if God is calling you to serve in His Church? Or, where do your children fit in?  We are anxious to help with these questions by offering opportunities to personally connect with one another. This is the weekend all clubs and ministries introduce themselves.  Enjoy an ice cream and receive a treat at every table as you walk through the Narthex and experience Life in the Spirit!   July 13th and 14th after all Masses.

Beginning May 20th, the Pantry will be open on Mondays ONLY from Noon - 5PM, until further notice.

Why is Mary celebrated during the month of May?

May is the beginning of spring which is a sign and symbol of new life, as the barrenness of winter comes to an end and new life begins to break forth. Mary is the Mother of the One through whom our New Life has come. Jesus, her Son, is the first born of the New Creation. (Col. 1:15)

Mary's response to the invitation of the God who respects human freedom is an invitation to each one of us to explore our own personal histories and to write them anew in Him. We do this by exercising our own freedom. By saying Yes to Jesus. By choosing to live the more excellent way of love. Mary walked this way with extraordinary humility. (1 Cor. 12:31) She shows us the pattern of human love surrendered to Divine Love.

Hello Everyone!
We are excited to announce our upcoming Teens@Mass event!  We will begin with Mass at 5pm, Saturday, June 8th.  After Mass we’ll gather in the parish hall for a party in honor of our new Pope Francis. The party will have a Vatican Theme with an Italian Dinner, followed by a fun Swing Dance!   Pope Francis used to love to Tango, so we’ll dance in honor of him!  We have hired Sam Johnson from the Swinginfusion Dance Company to come and DJ.  He and his partner will teach some basic Swing Dance lessons (Pepsi Cola Swing) , and play Swingin’ music till 9.  Come join us for this beautiful Mass and fun evening. The event is free and there will be plenty of food. This is our last event before summer vacation, so bring your dancin’ feet and tell your friends!

Why is the New Evangelization new?

Our Evangelization Committee is studying the book, "Forming Intentional Disciples" by Sherry A. Weddell.  The following is taken from the Introduction.  What have we learned about our Catholic faith? "We learned that there is a chasm the size of the Grand Canyon between the Church's sophisticated theology of the lay apostolate and the lived spiritual experience of the majority of our people.  And this chasm has a name: discipleship.  We learned that the majority of even "active" American Catholics are still at an early, essentially passive stage of spiritual development.  We learned that our first need at the parish level isn't catechetical. Rather, our fundamental problem is that most of our people are not yet disciples.  They will never be apostles until they have begun to follow Jesus Christ in the midst of his Church."

Prayer for priests!

Lord Jesus, you have chosen your priests from among us and sent them out to proclaim your word and to act in your name.  For so great a gift to your Church, we give you praise and thanksgiving.  We ask you to fill them with the fire of your love, that their ministry may reveal your presence in the Church.  Since they are earthen vessels, we pray that your power shine out through their weakness.

In their afflictions let them never be crushed; in their doubt never despair; in temptation never be destroyed; in persecution never abandoned.  Inspire them through prayer to live each day the mystery of your dying and rising.  In times of weakness send them your Spirit, and help them to praise your heavenly Father and pray for poor sinners.

By the same Holy Spirit put your word on their lips and your love in their hearts, to bring good news to the poor and healing to the brokenhearted.  And may the gift of Mary your mother, to the disciple whom you loved, be your gift to every priest.  Grant that she who formed you in your human image, may form them in your divine image, by the power of your Spirit, to the glory of God the Father.  Amen.

Welcome Boguslaw Rebacz!

We welcome seminarian Boguslaw Rebacz, who is beginning his second year of Theology at St. Cyril and Methodius Seminary in Orchard Lake.  He comes from a small town in Poland, where his parents had a farm.  He finished college in Poland, where he achieved a degree in economics.

Boguslaw wants to receive help from us to be able to break out of his shell in speaking English.  Being in the United States for only a year, he is already doing remarkably well.

Fr. Tim Birney, Director of Vocations for the Archdiocese, asked if our parish could help in this manner.  I believe Boguslaw could be a great asset to the Church of Detroit.  We pray for his growth, and in love, we will help.  By the way, there is no shortened version of Boguslaw, which litterally mean "praise be to God."  How appropriate!

Pope Francis Speaks!

We will publish articles or homilies by Pope Francis from time to time.  Please pray for the intentions of our Holy Father!

According to TV2000, a Catholic television channel, an exorcism was carried out in St Peter's Square after Mass on Sunday by Pope Francis.

Smiling broadly, the Pope initially shook the man's hand, but the South American pontiff's expression changed dramatically after a priest from the Legionaries of Christ, a conservative order, leaned in close and spoke a few words to him.

With a more serious expression on his face, Francis placed both hands on the man's head for 15 seconds.

The pilgrim, said to be a 43-year old married man from Mexico called Angelo, then convulsed briefly and emitted a long sigh. His body went limp and his mouth dropped open.

"Exorcists who have seen the footage have no doubt – this was a prayer for liberation from Evil, an actual exorcism," said TV2000, which is owned by the Italian Bishops Conference.

Words of Wisdom

Mother Teresa of Calcutta is remembered  for her selfless service to the poorest of humanity.

Quotes from Blessed Mother Teresa

"We will never know how much just a simple smile will do."

"Yesterday is gone.  Tomorrow has not yet come. We have only today.  Let us begin."

"Like Jesus, we belong to the whole world, living not for ourselves but for others.  The joy of the Lord is our strength."

"Seeking the face of God in everything, everyone, everywhere, all the time, and seeing His hand in every happening --- that is contemplation in the heart of the world."

"Every act of love is a work of peace, no matter how small."

"Love, to be real, must cost ---- it must hurt --- it must empty us of self."

"Hungry for love, He looks at you.  Thirsty for kindness, He begs you.  Naked for loyalty, He hopes in you.  Homeless for shelter in your heart, He asks of you.  Will you be that one to Him?"
